Share "Different Wood Floor Cleaning Solutions"
With the great style of wood floors being resurrected back into regular home decors, there is also more of a need to clean them. You obviously will want to do that without damaging you floors (and possibly without hazardous chemicals). Here are some homemade solutions from eHow.com to make your wood floor shine:
Before you start there is one universal rule for cleaning any wood floor with any solution: Do not over-saturate and wood floor or it could cause stains that are difficult and costly to repair.
Vinegar
As it can be used in many cleaning applications, vinegar can be very good for cleaning wood floors. Mix ½ cup of white vinegar with a warm gallon of water and put it into your mop bucket. With your sponge mop only damp, scrub off your wood floor. You don’t need to rinse the floor off with water after you’re done but you will want to wipe up spots that got a little too wet with a rag.
Another variation to use is 2 cups of white vinegar, 2 cups water, 1 cup lemon juice and ¼ cup dye-free unscented dish soap. Use the same application instructions as above. Lemon-y fresh!
Teabags
Care for some tea? A solution that some people use is putting 10 teabags into a half gallon of water and letting them soak in really well. After that, just like the vinegar solution, remember to never have your sponge mop be too damp.
Baby shampoo
What’s gentle on your baby is also gentle on your wood floor. 2 tablespoons of baby shampoo mixed with 1 gallon of warm water can be great for your wood floor. Another combination is adding ¼ cup of Borax to the same baby shampoo mix. This adds a very nice smell to the formula. As always, never have the sponge mop be too wet and wipe up any excess dampness with a rag after you have finished.
